2 Months Old

On Monday Harris turned 2 months old. Tuesday was his doctor's appointment. Harris is now up to 12 lb 13 oz and is 23.25 inches. He smiles and coos a lot these days.

I returned to work on the 3rd this month. It has been difficult making the transition, but we have a great childcare arrangement. Our friend Megan and her 2 year old daughter Tori watch Harris 4 days a week. Grandma & Grandpa Roemke watch Harris on Fridays.

Receding Waters

Sorry it has been so long since I've posted any updates. Things have been busy since our little run of bad luck. Our basement flooded last week during the bad storm and we didn't have hot water until last evening when the water heater was finally replaced. As loud as that storm was that evening, Harris did not wake during it. I was quite impressed.

The picture below is when our friends Chad and Audra visited awhile back. Brian is holding their daughter Emma while Harris sleeps on his lap. Brian's using Harris as his placemat while he finishes his dessert. He's definitely learned to be resourceful.

One Month Old

Harris was one month old yesterday. Time is going by quickly, but that's not always a bad thing. During our playtime, he seems to be responding more to my talking. I believe I even see genuine smiles coming from him during these times. It's very exciting for me to see and only encourages me to act sillier. I've attached a picture below.

Congrats to Chad & Audra

We would like to congratulate our friends Chad and Audra on their latest addition. On June 30 their second daughter Emmalyn Grace was born.

Below is Chad holding Harris and Brian holding Emma. Being only two weeks apart in age, I'm sure they'll be great playmates.

I've been meaning to post pictures of the baby's room for some time now. These are photos I took of the nursery before Harris was born. My mother was the one who did the painting of the mural for her lastest grandson. We love it.

Three Weeks Old

Things are going well at home. There are occasional days when he is quite fussy. However for the most part, Harris is a content baby. In fact today was the first day he had a bath and did not cry through it!

On Monday, my sister Jana and niece Kayla visited us. Kayla was amazed at his tiny fingernails. He really is Brian's "mini-me."


I think the faces he makes when he is burped are so funny. He usually fights it because he just wants to finish eating.

Surviving the First Week

Brian and I managed to make it through the first week at home. It has been a very trying time for us because of the difficulties with nursing. Brian has been incredible and very supportive. He has been there for every feeding helping with the techniques the pediatrician and lactation consultant taught us. After our last visit with the pediatrician on Thursday though, we are now formula feeding our little man. The few days since then have been much more relaxed and enjoyable. He is quite a content baby when he is full.

The cats have been making the adjustment to the baby quite well. Jack shown in the photo is very curious about the baby. Brian did install a tent on the crib to keep Jack out just in case.

Hello and welcome to a new edition of "Our Baby."

This is just a quick edition to annouce the arrival of our baby.




Harris Lee F. was born on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 12:58 PM at Dupont Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. and 14 Oz. and was 21.5 Inches long. He had a slow start (his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice during the delivery), but the wonderful staff at Dupont Hospital were able to get him going within a couple minutes (it felt like hours). He came home with us on Friday the 16th and is doing well.

So far he likes Mom, sleeping, making dirty diapers, and being swaddled by Dad.

He was taken away and monitored in the nursery for about 3 hours before we were able to hold him.

23 Week Ultrasound - 2/21/05

Well today was the day we have been waiting for. After all the weeks of waiting, we were finally able to get the first glimpses of our baby.

The ultrasound lasted about an hour and the first part required that I drink 40 oz of water in about 15 minutes prior to the appointment. The point is to have a noticeably full bladder so that the images would look better. About half way through the ultrasound, I had to stop and finally relieve the pressure. By then though, the tech had captured the images she needed with the full bladder.

The baby was in a position where its bottom is at my cervix and the head is up top. Bottom first at this point is no big deal I'm told. Also long as it turns towards the end, things should be fine. The baby's back was facing out of my belly, and its face was turned toward my spine. This was great for the ultrasound tech to see the spine and head, but the face stayed hidden during the whole appointment. Unfortunately, this means that we have no good images of the face. Since she was not able to get the face, I'll have a brief ultrasound in three weeks to make sure all is fine there.

Overall the baby is at a good weight 1 lb 7 oz. The organs that she were able to see all look good. The heart had four chambers and was beating regularly. The spine was good along with all the other skeletal features. The stomach, kidneys, and bladder were all present and in good position. The cerebellum was seen and had the appropriate size and shape.

Now, probably what everyone is waiting to hear. It looks like the baby is a boy. She didn't get the very best pictures of the penis, but there were a few. The babies feet were placed in front of it. At first, I wasn't sure if she was positive it was a boy. She seemed hesitant to say, "Yeah, it's a boy." The rest of the ultrasound though she kept referring to the baby as "he" and "him." At the end of the appointment, Brian pushed her for a percentage that she believed it to be a boy. She answered she was 90% sure it was a boy. I was impressed by those numbers. So there you have it.
